September 5, 2013 - Thursday
Intercourse, PA

Hi folks!!   Sorry you haven't heard from us in a couple of days!    All is well, we've just been a little lazy.   Each night Dennis has built a great fire!!   By the time we get inside, look at a little TV - it's time for bed.   But I'll try to catch you up on some of our events!!

Arrived Tuesday 9/3/13 at one of our favorite campgrounds - Beacon Hill Camping in Intercourse, PA.   We've stayed here several times before and have always enjoyed it.   It's on a fairly busy road but is still enough in the country.   Lots of horse & buggies go by as we are close to many farms.   Right across the street is Sam King's farm.   We have been watching them harvest corn and store it in the silos.   Also have a great view of the cows.    There is also a big store right across the street called King's Homestead.   They sell a lot of furniture, craft & have a pond with ducks and other animals.

                                                                    Relaxing!!

See the tobacco hanging in the barn

                                                        Getting ready for dinner!!

Walked around after dinner across the street from the campground

I wanted to bring one home :))

Is the grass greener on the other side??

                                                                  Mooooooo!!

Getting the fire ready for the evening!

                                                              Wednesday 9-4-2013

Breakfast Wednesday morning - Belgian Waffles & Sausage prepared by Chef Dennis!!

Did a little shopping on Wednesday.  These ornaments are the same guy that lives in Mechanicsville - Glen Crider - that makes the nutcrackers.
Went to a knife store. Hundreds of them.

Thursday, 9-5 off again to another state park

Here we go again - drove about 30 miles to French Creek State Park for another kayak excursion!!

These beautiful flowers were blooming all over the lily pads!!

                                                                                                          Lunch time!!

Flock of Canadian Geese near the shore

Then it was on to dinner at our favorite restaurant - Dienner's Country Restaurant.   They have genuine Pennsylvania Dutch cooking and specialize in rotisserie chicken.   You won't leave there hungry that's for sure :)).

Dennis fixed another nice fire tonight.    It's supposed to go down into the 40's tonight, so we'll be piling the blankets on.

September 1, 2013 - Sunday

Well, up late again today. I think it was after nine for Dennis but he works so hard keeping everything so nice and neat for me. I don't think we took any pictures today because we stayed around the campground. We had two pretty good storms during the day so we stayed close. We did go back to the flea market place to find a juicer. Dennis was just thrilled about this but I needed one to squeeze the limes for the mojitos. A few walks and a bicycle ride around the campground and we were done for the day.

September 2, 2013- Monday - Labor Day

We both got up early because we wanted to get to the state park early today and try out our kayaks. Dennis cleaned up a little outside and packed up a few things since this is our last day in Bedford. Oh, yeah, HAPPY LABOR DAY. Good luck to all those educators who start another thrilling and adventurous school year. Also, we want to wish all those family members and friends a good year if you have to work. Sorry about that, but when you can, we advise you to retire and do what you can when you can. We are having a blast spending our kids inheritance. Just kidding Chad, Kevin, and Scott.
Oh back to where and what we going to do today.
I packed a lunch, Dennis packed the kayaks and he threw me in the back and we were off to the Shawnee State Park. You know he really didn't throw me in there, he helped me, of course.
Glad I am flexible!!!!!!

Well it was a beautiful day and we had so much fun.

While we were eating lunch, Tim Greenway called and chatted with Dennis for a while.

Tim, Dennis's snow plowing partner, and his wife, Anna, are from Pennsylvania. Anna is actually from this area. In fact the lake that we were on is the lake that Anna and Tim were on when they were sailing and dating. Tim said they flipped his sailboat and lost a very good pair of sunglasses. We told him we looked for them but to no avail.
Oh well what a beautiful lake. Hope you like the pictures.
See the bird in the tree.
Went up in a little creek. Water was really cold here.

Flower from the lily pads.

Some purple flowers

She was caught in the pads :)

Three birds in the tree.

I think we were paddling for almost 3 hours today so Dennis stopped at the ice cream shop again. I chose Raspberry and Dennis went with the Blackberry again. It was half price because the flavor is being retired. So he put me back in the back again with the kayaks and headed to the campground.

We cleaned up a few items and packed up the bike and the motorcycle so we can head to the Amish country tomorrow.
I wanted to play the corn hole game so Dennis set them up while I made a couple of frozen pina
coladas. It did not help me at all. I kicked his butt in dominoes but he slaughtered me in corn hole. The third game he spotted me 10 points and still killed me. He felt so bad and I was so sore from paddling, he fixed a spaghetti dinner for me.
A little Seinfeld and it was off to bed. Lancaster bound tomorrow.

Good night, sweet dreams and don't let the bed bugs bite.

Friday - August 30, 2013
Bedford, PA

Another sleepy morning for us.   Up a little after 8:00.   Was foggy, but cleared up by around 9:00.

Not much going on - took a walk around the campground and had lunch outside on the picnic table.

After lunch we hopped on the motorcycle and went to the Old Log House about 4 miles from our campground.   Owned by the same family dating back to 1762.   They converted it from a residence to a quaint gift shop.   Great little place to visit.

After that we went back to the flea market to check out a couple things and from there went to the grocery store.

Then it was back home and played a round of Mexican Train Dominoes.  Dennis tried, but couldn't quite beat me :)).

Dinner was chicken tenders on the grill, fresh corn on the cob (from the Farmers Market), rice and a salad.  After dinner Dennis made a great fire and we fixed s'mores.   We missed our friends not being here with us :((.    Then our usual - a little TV and to bed.

Saturday - August 31, 2013
Bedford, PA

Good Morning Everyone!!   We sure are getting lazy -  8:00 again!!   Oh well, we are on vacation you know :)).
The blogger at work!

So, you know earlier I said we had been to the flea market!!   We didn't tell you what we had been looking at did we??    Well guess what we went back and bought today????     Two - 8ft kayaks!!!    Brand new and at a great price!!!

Yes, I think we have lost our minds and are reverting back to our childhood, but that's ok!!!   Then we just had to worry about how we were going to transport them :)).   But, you know Dennis, where there's a will there's a way!!!!   We were in the Escape, so he laid down the back seats and the front passenger seat - and guess what - they both fit in there like a glove.   The only problem was - where was I going to sit????    The guy at the flea market said he would give us some rope to tie me on top the car - ha ha!!!   I thought a better solution would be for me to drive and Dennis could squeeze in the little space in the far back next to the Kayaks!!   So that's what we did and off we went back to the campground!!

Ate some lunch and decided we would head to Shawnee State Park where we had taken hike the other day.   Dennis decided to do a little rearranging - strapping one kayak to the top of the car and the other one inside.

At least that way we could both sit up front.  So, off we went to the lake at the park for our "Maiden Voyage"!!   Rented a couple of life preservers, hopped on and started paddling !!   We looked like a couple of "seasoned veterans" out there :))!!!   At least we didn't fall in!!!   About an hour in our ride we heard thunder, so we made a beeline for shore.   Didn't want to be a sitting duck you know!!

On the other side of the lake for a break. Oreos and water!

Got everything back in the car and off we went on the hunt for life vests!!   Being in a small town that proved to be quite the challenge.   After running all over the Bedford area, we had to end up driving 30 miles to Altoona, PA to a Dicks Sporting Goods store where we finally found what we wanted!!!   So now we're ready for our next expedition!!!

By then it was about 6:30 and starving!!   We just happened to be on the same road that Slick's Restaurant is one, so we stopped for dinner.   One things for sure, you won't leave there hungry!!!   Then it was back home to Buttercup!!   Dennis built a nice fire and we sat around listening to Saturday night at the Grand Ole Opry online.   WSM radio online, if you're interested!!  Dennis brought home his dessert (Boston Cream Pie) and ate it around the campfire!!   I had some ice cream!!

What a great day!!   See ya tomorrow :))).
